There are two different downloads available for HijackThis. The standard download is a MSI installer version that will install the program into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\HiJackThis folder and create a startup menu icon for it. HijackThis is also available as a standalone EXE file that can be run from any directory or from a removable media device. It is highly recommended that you use the Installer version so that backups are located in one place and can be easily used.
To use HijackThis, download the file and extract it to a directory on your hard drive called c:\HijackThis. Then navigate to that directory and double-click on the hijackthis.exe file. When the program is started click on the Scan button and then the Save Log button to create a log of your information.

i will not post the rest of the log, they were all PUPs just things i had downloaded years ago in my storage drive, games and applications. i will not post potentially incriminating information. none of the pups were currently installed applications
Where can I find the download for Catalina - outside the App Store. I need to download it on an old Mac which doesn't support Catalina to install it later on another, newer Mac - due to bandwidth issues.

No, there's only the 'Get' button. It states the compatibility as OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) so I assume it won't download for anything older (we don't know what you're running, and the source quoted above specifies later systems) but if your Mac isn't compatible anyway, again it probably won't download. There is no other download. Any other alleged download source is illicit and probably dangerous.
There is no separate download to do this. The process is that you 'Get' Catalina on a compatible Mac: when it had downloaded it will ask you to start the install process. You can stop that, and then proceed with the method to create a bootable installer as described here:
However it's unlikely that the App Store will allow you do download the installed on a Mac on which is can't be installed. A 2014 iMac ought to be OK, though, provided that your system is compatible - you haven't said what that is. You may need to upgrade to El Capitan first, using this special link:
Well that is evident they have stopped that. But there appears to be no access to the file once downloaded. Presumably they are now downloading it to a new location under some other name. Presumably to make it hard to locate. Possibly an alphanumeric unique name is used. Like many other temp files. The other brand new iMac is now showing the download file either. Waiting to see how that one updates. If the location of the download can be located then making a usb recover drive will possibly be the same or similar.

Instead, many websites, downloads, and emails are compromised and loaded with malicious intent.

Given the nature of the software, it's always best to be cautious when downloading from a third party. The HJT fork hasn't received much coverage which may make you question its reptuation. With your back-up in place and restorable, get rid of the CryptoLocker malware. Make sure your AV program has its most recent signatures, then use it to run a scan. Only stay connected to the internet long enough to download new signatures, because CryptoLocker keeps encrypting while you're online, and stops encrypting when you're offline. CryptoLocker has even been known to encrypt while transmitting data online before you've even logged into a user account.
After running your AV shield's scan, you'll probably want to run other removal programs. As with your AV shield, stay online only as long as it takes to download the programs. You'll probably want to boot Windows into safe mode before you run the programs.
